According to Indian media reports, Imran Khwaja, representing the Singapore Cricket Association and serving as ICC Deputy Chairman, has been tasked with contacting the Pakistan Cricket Board to persuade them to reconsider.
The Government of Pakistan had announced on 15 February that the team would not play the match. The move has raised concerns within the ICC due to the political sensitivity and the major financial impact linked to a Pakistan vs India fixture.
Analysts note that the global audience and commercial value of this rivalry are extremely high. The ICC’s broadcast agreements running until 2027 heavily depend on such high-profile matches, which are often built into tournament schedules to maximize revenue and viewership.
Reports suggest the ICC has begun informal diplomatic efforts, as broadcasters fear heavy financial losses if the match does not take place. The situation remains unresolved as discussions continue behind the scenes.
